Commercial/Industrial noise assessments

Noise impact assessments, mitigation recommendations and noise control specification

Aim

Assess the impact of commercial/industrial noise sources or activities and provide mitigation recommendations and, if required, specification of noise control.

Application

  • For new or existing commercial/industrial noise sources
Excludes entertainment, wind farms, sport and other areas covered by specific guidance.
  • For fixed installations
Outdoor air conditioning, chiller & heat pump units, commercial kitchen extract systems and more.
  • For activities on permanent sites
Industrial estates, manufacturing, outdoor car valet services, waste management and more.
  • For planning applications
Outline and full applications, discharge of conditions.
  • For complaint or statutory nuisance cases
From fixed installations or activities on permanent sites.

Typical Requirements

  1. Noise survey: We take measurements on-site at secure, representative locations for a duration reflecting the operation of commercial/industrial noise sources and noise sensitive areas in question. The data from these measurements are used as a basis for assessing the impact of commercial/industrial noise upon noise sensitive areas.
  2. Manufacturers' noise data (Depends on case): For new fixed installations, manufacturers' noise data will be required in order to assess the impact at noise sensitive locations. For existing installations or activities, the noise levels of the commercial/industrial noise sources can be measured and used for assessment.
  3. Site layout drawings (Depends on case): In most cases, clear scale drawings showing the site and noise sources are required to support the noise impact assessment. Drawings are not required from complainants for existing commercial/industrial noise sources.
